Gauteng "I got a copy of Shoot Out The Lights in about '84. Then I ended up with out a turntable and had to re-buy it on CD. That would have been October last year. So I decided that SOTL was acutally not bad and then bought myself the Island Years compilation for Christmas. Then things got out of control and now I own 5 RT albums (having since accquired Rumor and Sigh, Mock Tudor, and the Old Kit Bag) and I find that listening to stuff I'd been playing for years wasn't such fun anymore. Just so that Mr Thompson doesn't get consumed with guilt I still play a bit of Beethoven in the car, some John Hiatt and even a bit of David Bowie. I don't suppose RT would like to make a contribution to the cultural restoration of South Africa by playing some shows here?"

Indiana "Been a great fan of Richard's since Fairport. I have had the good fortune to see him perform in Chicago, Bloomington, and--just last night--in Indianapolis for the first time ever, I believe. I thought the venue a bit subpar, but as Richard has explained, it's really the crowd that makes the difference, and this was an enthusiastic, loyal bunch of fans. Richard was fantastic, as always. Thank you SO much for coming to Indianapolis, and please do return!"
Massachusetts "Just thought that Richard, being the wordsmith that he is, might enjoy a few new ones to add to his repertoire...The Washington Post's Style Invitational once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition. Here are this year's (2003) winners: Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.  Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near  future. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it. Hipatitis: Terminal coolness.  Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease.  Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all  these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer. Glibido: All talk and no action.  Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly. Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an asshole."

Virginia "I'm a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and they allow patrons to bring their own hoagies into the new stadium. So, I'm just wondering if I can enter the show in Charlottesville carrying a home-made tuna on rye. Please play Devonside or Poor Ditching Boy"
Essex "Can I order CDs on line?? I'm trying to cope with an analogue brain in a digital world, and have just about mastered this contraption and want to make the most of it. "

Sydney "There is a great big beautiful poster of RT that has just appeared out the front of the Enmore Theatre in Sydney. There are 52 sleeps before the gig at this point. I think RT is somewhere on the East Coast at the moment doing his Warmup Gigs For The Australian Tour. We anticipate some retro numbers like MOTL and Reno Nevada plus Autopsy and maybe No Mans Land plus Titty Ditty and Mutton Street. Almost all the stalls have sold out now and soon those poor late sods will have to just be satisfied with a birds eye view from upstairs at Enmore. Actually it isn't so bad - 2,300 seats - I saw Elvis C from upstairs and it was still great. In fact, I saw RT and DT in 1997 from upstairs and loved it. So, Sydney waits ... the rain comes down (this week) and the sun shines (hopefully next week) whilst the Test team heads for Sri Lanka and another win while they oil up for the next Ashes series."
Bedfordshire "I first heard Richard play on Unhalfbricking in 1969, age 13 (my elder brother was a Fairport fan; I rapidly became one); his distinctive guitar style continues to be a source of delight and inspiration after all these years. So many great live performances to treasure (Mean Fiddler circa Hand of Kindness stands out as particularly blistering). Used to live up in Muswell Hill in the 80s, and often thought of nicking the Fairport sign off the old doctor's surgery....And hey, I bought Henry the Human Fly too!"
Virginia What can I really say to or about someone whose music has been such a vital part of my life? I guess just this: thanks. But somehow that seems so insufficient.…
Stoke-On-Trent I am interested in local tour dates and new releases. Many Thanks.
