Richard Thompson will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate
by the University of Aberdeen, 5 July 2011.
The University of Aberdeen seeks to recognise, by the award of an honorary degree, not only distinguished academics but also those who have made outstanding contributions to public service or their profession. The award also honours those who can truly be regarded as outstanding internationally. Richard Thompson’s exceptional and distinctive contribution to contemporary music places him among a very distinguished group of honorary graduates from the arts.
Previous internationally-known recipients of honorary doctorates include David Hockney, Jessye Norman, Andrew Motion, and J K Rowling.
