[Beesweb] Richard Thompson News - September 2012

***

Richard has just wrapped up a fantastic summer tour of the UK with a quick dip into Norway. The solo acoustic tour covered 14 cities during the height of London's Olympics!

August's Fairport Convention Cropredy Festival included Richard's Friday show where daughter Kami Thompson joined him onstage for "Bright Lights" and "Heart Needs a Home" before RT surprised the 16,000 + audience with a special reunion of his electric "Hand of Kindness" band featuring Simon Nicol, Dave Pegg, Dave Mattacks and Pete Zorn. Saturday night RT joined Fairport for 8 songs with Kami guesting on a couple more.

Cropredy week included RT playing some very British sports! He and the Fairport lads challenged Nancy Covey's Festival Tours team in the ancient Cotswolds game of Aunt Sally (Fairport won!). Richard ended the weekend with a full day of cricket as part of the Fairport / musician's team vs. Cropredy Village.

Post cricket it was straight up to Scotland. RT played a hot (literally!) Standing Room Only Queens Hall show (following the Red Hot Chilli Pipers) as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The next day he went further north into Aberdeenshire to visit good friend Marc Ellington where RT, Marc and Fyvie Castle's Robert Lovie surprised Festival Tours with a few Scottish ballads on the banks of the River Dee.

When asked his impressions of recent shows Richard replied, "It's been a busy but rewarding month over here in Europe. We had a wonderful visit to Norway, a spectacular 45th anniversary weekend at Cropredy, a show at last at Snape Maltings (been trying to play there for 40 years), a great, sweaty, jammed in standing room gig last night in Southampton. Looking forward to coming back to Europe next year with the Electric Trio!"

Richard returns to the USA for more dates in September beginning with SOLD OUT shows in Alexandria, VA, Evanston and Chicago's City Winery, while a few tickets remain available for shows in Bowling Green KY and Bloomington IL.

Fancy a weekend by the sea? Back on the West Coast RT is making a couple of special solo appearances in September including a trip to the top of California's coast, deep in gorgeous Redwoods country- on Friday, September 28 in Mendocino and Saturday, September 29 in Arcata at Van Duzer Auditorium at HSU.

By now you've probably heard RT will be playing in NYC Saturday, September 22. RT will start off the evening at the beautiful Beacon Theatre with set of songs prior to Tedeschi Trucks Band's final show of three NYC Shows. (Apologies to all for the misinformation on the date in the last newsletter. The correct date for this show is Sept. 22.)

Looking further ahead, an additional night on Sunday December 9 has been added to the two SOLD OUT shows on Friday and Saturday at Montalvo's Carriage House Theatre in Saratoga, CA. These are RT's rare All Request shows so each night will be completely different.
