The event, held Wednesday night, included performances by Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, Old Crow Medicine Show, Dr. John, Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell, Richard Thompson, John Fullbright, Shovels & Rope, The Milk Carton Kids, JD McPherson, Mike Bub, Kelly Willis & Bruce Robison, Holly Williams and Duane Eddy. Original Buffalo Springfield members Stephen Stills and Richie Furay also came together to play the band's iconic song "For What It's Worth," while third-generation musician Holly Williams offered a tribute to her late grandfather, Hank Williams Sr.

You'd think it would be impossible for any other act in the night to rise to the lofty heights of the first two bands. Enter Richard Thompson. A Lifetime Achievement Award winner and one of the greatest guitar players in the world, Thompson is also one of the most accomplished songwriters. Thompson was flying solo and acoustic tonight which meant that the selections from his Buddy Miller produced 2013 release "Electric" had to be stripped down to one acoustic guitar. But when that one acoustic guitar is in the hands of a god like Thompson, it doesn't sound stripped down at all.

Thompson's set drew heavily from "Electric" but also touched on the rest of his career. Fan favorites like "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" and the sing along "Johnny's Far Away" were enthusiastically received. - Chris Gritty, The Examiner

Richard Thompson needed only a guitar to blow minds. The crowd sang along to sea shanty "Johnny's Far Away," with Richard adding in jaw-dropping flourishes on his acoustic guitar. His classic "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" drew cheers from the audience, illustrating that great storytelling in songs exists in all nations. - Jon Freeman, Country Weekly
