His First Acoustic Solo Album Since 1981,
To Be Released August 9 on Cooking Vinyl USA

'BALLADS' CROWNS FLURRY OF ACTIVITY THAT ALSO INCLUDES BOXED SET, 2 LIVE CDS, 3 CONCERT DVDS, FILM SCORE, AND TOUR DATES

On August 9, Cooking Vinyl USA will release'Front Parlour Ballads,' a gorgeous collection of 13 new songs featuring Richard Thompson solo on vocals, acoustic guitar and other instruments. Percussionist Debra Dobkin accompanies on selected tracks.

'Front Parlour Ballads' marks Thompson's first acoustic solo album since 1981 and his first acoustic album of all-original material. Encompassing everything from rollicking tales of quickie marriages in "Let it Blow", a lilting love song dedicated to "Miss Patsy," and the devastatingly beautiful lament of "Precious One," 'Front Parlour Ballads' is a treasure box of stories and characters, all delivered with Thompson's masterful guitar work, sonorous voice and bittersweet lyrics.

In addition to 'Front Parlour Ballads,' Thompson has a host of other projects in 2005 which include:

*A Live CD and DVD of his 2001 performance at Austin City Limits, available May 10 from New West Records

*Richard Thompson Band's 'Live In Providence' DVD, originally recorded in 2003, to be re-released in May 2005 on Cooking Vinyl USA.

*The soundtrack to 'Grizzly Man,' a new film by Werner Herzog that debuted at Sundance Film Festival this January and will be released theatrically in the fall.

*'1000 Years of Popular Music,' a live DVD & CD of two recent performances at Bimbo's which span everything from 13th century Italian ballads to Hank Williams to Britney Spears, available this fall on Cooking Vinyl.

*A 5-disc boxed set of both classic and unreleased Richard Thompson songs available this fall from Free Reed Records & Music.

*Numerous U.S. tour dates throughout the spring and summer
