Major Festival Performances Scheduled Around Release of New Album
‘Front Parlour Ballads’ on August 9th, 2005

Folk-rock legend Richard Thompson will be one of the headliners at the Newport Folk Festival on Saturday, August 6, on a remarkable 2-day bill that also includes performances by Bela Fleck, Patty Griffin, The Pixies, Emmylou Harris, and Elvis Costello. It is Thompson’s first visit to the Festival in over a decade, and it comes just three days in advance of the release of his superb new album ‘Front Parlour Ballads’ on Cooking Vinyl USA.

Newport is one of a number of headlining festival performances both in the U.S. and abroad surrounding the release of ‘Ballads’. On August 12 and 13 he will perform at the Cropredy Festival in Banbury, UK. His Friday set will see him paired with longtime associate Danny Thompson (no relation), while the Saturday show finds Richard reunited onstage with his former band mates from Fairport Convention. Finally, on September 10, he’ll return to the US for a solo performance headlining the New Haven Folk Festival.

Thompson’s highly anticipated new album is already drawing superlative reviews. Here’s a sampling of what critics have said:

-Jim Abbott, Orlando Sentinel, 6/10/05

“One of the most rewarding works of his career, a finely crafted album that... grows richer with each new listen.”

-Jonathan Ringen, Rolling Stone, 8/11/05
